Welcome to That Happy Place!
For trauma informed, therapeutic support at the intersection between Well-being and the Arts
Somatic Therapy makes space for us to make the connection between mind, body and spirit, learning to regulate our emotions in healthy ways through well researched methods.
We explore movement and breathe practices that support healthy regulation, body image, self image and healthy nervous system responses with a person centred and strength based approach.
Somatic Dance and Movement Therapy integrates traditional psychotherapy with movement, in accordance with research, which continues to show that the most lasting therapeutic results, particularly for trauma related conditions and for people who are pre-verbal, combine a top down and bottom up approach to enable people to feel safe, secure and ready to move forward.
How might you and your loved one feel to experience the power of deep, regular support through our bespoke Respite Weekends where you, as carer, can drop into your own replenishment whilst knowing your loved one is being engaged and expanded and enjoyed in a safe, familiar environment?
You are welcomed to experience a gentle introduction to your worker and to the space, and look forward to regular, monthly respite tailored to your loved ones needs as your loved one engages in creative activities designed to introduce them to independent living skills, expanded regulation, enhanced relating, creativity and moving powerfully but gently, at a pace they can cope with, toward their NDIS goals.
*We do not use restrictive practices.
The body keeps the score, as Bessel van der Kolk so poignantly coined it, and if we have experienced difficult circumstances, we may find our bodies reacting in a freeze or a fight or flight response when it comes to touch. This experience can interfere greatly with our relationships with our friends, families and intimate partners, and perhaps even with workmates and others.
Taking time to connect to ourselves and our own felt sense of the body, learning to identify those sensations that feel welcome and those that don't, and learning to express those boundaries as we experience slow, expected and healthy touch in a soothing rhythm is the gift of Trauma Informed Somatic Massage.
As the ocean gently moves over the rocks, wearing away the hard stones over the years, so TISM allows space for a renewed felt sense of safety.
All people, from all walks of life, all ages, preferences and abilities

"Mia helps me to feel more connected and less alone. She listens to me without judgement and has helped me to rebuild trust in relationships as I share my embarrassing moments, struggles and laughter with her. When I cry she shows understanding through empathy and validation- she lets me be me!"
Mia holds a safe and nurturing space allowing me to feel safe to unfurl and discover deep parts of myself. Mia has the unique ability to tailor sessions on the spot, supporting whatever presents in the moment through her attentive listening and authentic relating, using her vast tool kit.
I feel so supported and cared for by Mia, she is able to read my cues and know what I need, sometimes before I notice myself! Mia makes every moment an adventure, when we find something like a feather, she helps me make a dream catcher, when we see an interesting food, she's enthusiastic to help me make it, it's always interesting and fun!
" I’ve been part of a women’s circle and meditation classes with Mia as facilitator, and have always felt nurtured in her presence. That Happy Place has helped me on my wellness journey. I highly recommend. Mia is both warm and professional. "
"Working with Mia i felt what it was to feel fully accepted as i am, while also feeling the power to be all that I can be"
"There is something absolutely magical about the massage treatment I received from Mia. I melted on the table and was able to feel completely held, safe and deeply relaxed. I could describe it almost as if she was massaging my soul! Absolutely incredible! Thank you so much "
